Paradoxically, India, with over 1 billion inhabitants, has the largest number of illiterate people but also the largest proportion of graduates in the world. Though one of the world's poorest countries, India has also been a leader in IT development for a number of years, with about 3 million trained IT specialists. While some work for the rest of the world from India, others choose to emigrate.
