After September 11, Ellen joined other families of victims to file a complaint ("Families United to bankrupt terrorism") against Al Qaeda and its financial base. At the offices of Motley Rice, the investigator Michael Elsner works on the case.

Ellen visits Michael Elsner to find out where the case has got to and learns that the Government is not always helpful. Michael shows her a new piece of the jigsaw: "The Golden Chain" document on the funding of the Al Qaeda network.
